I have always been big on security with our home, from locked doors and windows, our alarm system, keeping bushes trimmed back, and outside lighting. Being a Criminal Justice major you hear and learn a lot about what criminals looks for, and I for one never wanted to be a statistic. Now that we have our son with us I want to make sure we do everything we can to not be a victim.
Every night I try to remember to turn on our outside porch and coach lights, even when we leave on vacation we tell the grandparents to turn on and off the lights. Sometimes we forgot and that drives me crazy, so I figured now is the time to do something about it. Enter the In-Wall Timer. I picked this up at Lowes along with an additional cover plate for $25 total. Took 30 mins of my time, and now I have additional piece of mind.
This is a pretty simple installation if you have any experience in home renovation. If you don’t, call a contractor or a handyman. Anyone that can install a light switch should be able to install this timer. This time has 7 day programming, a battery backup, and a manual on/off switch. Time to get started…
Parts Needed:
Time to Wire:
After hooking all the wires up and BEFORE you reassemble the wall plate make sure it works! Once I verified the timer worked I put on the new cover plate. TIP: when you install cover plates take the time to make sure your screw heads all face the same direction. This is such a simple thing to do, all electricians do this to make the finished product look correct.
