I love doing kitchen remodels…..it’s a sick love, I know. The reason is simple…..the work you do provides a huge visual impact. And we all know kitchens and baths sell homes, so what’s not to love!
So here we have a beautiful 1970s retro kitchen…..or old and dated. The cabinets are original from the 50s, they are metal cases but sometime in the 70s they were re-faced. Either way they gotta go! Then you have the basic 4×4 white tile squares, yep….gotta go.
First things first, the cabinets need to go. I know a lot of people look at this part as cheap therapy….little stress + big hammer = good times. Well even though its hard to argue with that train of thought, I see this as easy money. And after taking them out carefully, put them on Craigslist, and 1 day later I am $150 richer. Not a huge amount of money, but it’s $150 in my pocket and not in the trash.
Now here is where I got incredibly lucky. When the tile was installed they actually glued it to the walls which made it easy to remove and didn’t damage the drywall. Since I will be installing new tile later on I didn’t need to worry too much about the walls and smoothing them down.
Sorry the picture looks like crap. After working all day apparently I can’t focus worth a damn. Either way, you get the idea. The big hole is the old vent for the stove which will get patched up.
